Study confirms rising popularity of web conferencing

The global market for web conferencing solutions brought in revenue of US$1.80 billion in 2012, and shows no sign of slowing down in the near future.

In fact, Frost & Sullivan is estimating that this market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 9.8 per cent over the next few years, to eventually be worth in excess of $2.88 billion by 2017.
This growth will come as no surprise to those experienced with web conferencing, as it highlights the increasing popularity of this technology platform. But those unfamiliar with web conferencing might be wondering, how does this form of communication actually work?

Web conferencing 101

Essentially, web conferencing allows users to host a virtual meeting using nothing more than a standard internet connection.

Not only will you be able to communicate directly with participants regardless of their location over a standard telephone connection, you'll also be able to share your computer screen to efficiently share information and resources.

Here are some ways in which you can utilise this screen sharing capability:

  • deliver presentations and slide shows
  • explain spreadsheets and complex documentation
  • host training sessions and workshops
  • transfer and collaborate on files in real time

What do you need?

Web conferencing users do not need any advanced training or technical knowledge. The service is fast and easy to use. One user will act as the host of the conference, while others will simply need to activate a link in order to view the conference and communicate with other users.

All over the world, businesses of all sizes and industries are looking for richer and more sophisticated methods of collaboration. As web conferencing becomes an increasingly valuable asset to any successful organisation, the question must be asked - can you afford to be left behind?
