What is a managed webinar (and the benefits of hosting one)

A managed webinar is a wonderful way to achieve all the benefits of a self-serve virtual webinar but...

An introduction to VoIP

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It refers to communication services provided via the internet. Instead of your call data being transmitted intact through a dedicated digital phone line, it is transmitted through a VoIP internet line in data "packets". VoIP lines can be shared by multiple calls at the same time. VoIP technology turns analogue audio signals into digital signals, which are transmitted over an online network. The signals can be picked up by VoIP software installed onto your computer.

Advantages of VoIP calls

Cost - VoIP calls are cheap because they use the internet rather than dedicated digital lines. The prices barely fluctuate across countries so international calls offer big savings.

Flexibility - You can make calls from anywhere, as long as you have a strong internet connection. You can receive incoming calls when working remotely by routing calls to your IP.

While the benefits of VoIP are clear, there are also some disadvantages you should know about before choosing to use VoIP exclusively.

Disadvantages of VoIP calls

Quality & Reliability - VoIP calls can experience quality issues because they use internet lines rather than dedicated digital lines. As VoIP lines are shared, excessive network traffic can cause data packets to be delayed in reaching their destination. VoIP relies on the bandwidth of both parties, so if one party does not have a strong internet connection this can also have an effect on the call quality.

Security - VoIP calls use unsecured internet lines so there is a risk of communications being monitored by other parties.

VoIP is a flexible, affordable way to communicate for businesses of all sizes. It is especially useful in the form of web conferencing.
